Meet our newest residential training dog: Scramble.

3-year-old intact Romanian rescue German Shepherd mix.

He has a bite history, doesn’t trust people and has a strong prey drive.

He’s with me for 4 weeks to work on recall, confidence, and changing how he feels around people.

I’ll be sharing his progress along the way.

Korri | Part 3

This follow-up session was filmed two weeks after Korri went home following his training programme.

The first clip shows Korri at his follow-up session with his owner.

The second clip shows Korri before training.

Real progress is measured after the dog goes home.

Success isn’t what a dog can do with the trainer - it’s what they can do with their owner.

These are two intact males: a Cane Corso and a Belgian Malinois.

Both have access to the same resource and move around one another comfortably.

Does this mean all dogs should share resources?

No.

Does it mean resource guarding isn’t real?

Of course not.

What it does highlight is something we often lose sight of on social media:

Dogs are individuals.

Dogs evolved as social animals, living, travelling, hunting, and often feeding within social groups.

Some dogs are comfortable sharing space around valuable items. Others are not.

Behaviour is influenced by many factors, including genetics, development, social relationships, learning history, environment, health, and the value of the resource itself.

This is why blanket advice can sometimes be problematic.

Advice such as “always remove resources such as bones and toys” may be appropriate in some situations, but not necessarily in all situations.

Good behavioural assessment starts with observing the individual dog and the relationship between the dogs involved, rather than applying the same rule to every case.

The goal isn’t to prove that dogs should or shouldn’t share resources.

The goal is to understand the dogs in front of us.

I’m interested in hearing real-world experiences from dog owners.

If your dog has been neutered or spayed, did you notice any changes afterwards?

I’m curious about observations including:

• Aggression
• Anxiety
• Confidence
• Ability to cope with stress and recovery from it
• Environmental sensitivity
• Sociability with other dogs
• Focus and trainability
• Energy levels

As well as:

• Marking
• Humping
• Same-sex dog aggression
• Roaming or wandering behaviours

And any health-related changes, including:

• Weight
• Coat and nail condition
• General health and wellbeing
• Any other noticeable changes

Did neutering or spaying seem to:

✔️ Resolve a behaviour issue?
✔ Change behaviour in some way?
✔ Make no noticeable difference at all?

Or, if your dog remains intact, what behavioural, social, emotional, or health characteristics have you observed over time?

If you’re happy to share, please include:

🐾 Breed
🐾 Male or female
🐾 Current age
🐾 Age when neutered/spayed
🐾 Whether your dog has received any formal training
🐾 If you noticed changes, how long after neutering/spaying did they become apparent?

There are no right or wrong answers here. Behaviour is influenced by many factors, and individual dogs can respond very differently. I’m interested in hearing the changes owners observed following neutering or spaying and whether any common patterns emerge.

👇 I’d love to hear your thoughts.

You saw Korri’s reaction to dogs, but that’s not the only area we’re working on.

Korri is also unsure around unfamiliar people, particularly men.

When Korri first arrived, he was unsure of me too, but he built trust relatively quickly.

This clip is part of one of our training sessions, where I invited a friend to help Korri see men in a different light.

Play is one of the most powerful ways to build connection and confidence.

Meet Korri.

Korri is our latest residential training dog and will be staying with us for the next three weeks.

He is a Cane Corso, although he was the runt of the litter, and his biggest struggle is his excitement around other dogs.

When Korri sees another dog, he becomes so over-aroused that his owners struggle to maintain control, creating a safety risk for both themselves and Korri. If he is off lead and spots a dog even 30 metres away, he will immediately run towards it, regardless of any cues or attempts to recall him.

Before joining his current family in January, Korri had spent around two years living outside after his previous home found him difficult to manage.

Now he’s here to learn how to feel calmer, think more clearly, and make better choices around other dogs.

Follow along for his progress.
